Infertility reflections, 2 years later

>> Tuesday, October 12, 2010

As I sat and watched LSU beat the Florida gators Saturday night I couldn't help but think back to this match up two short years ago.  The outcome of the game was certainly different this time around, but that was the farthest thing from my mind.

At the end of the game, Mr and his dad were yelling and cheering for the win, it was intense.  And I sat with them, holding my son, cheering for us.  Not for the Tiger, but for us.  We did it! Two years later, we are exactly where I want to be, a family of 3.  There were days that I wondered if I'd ever be able to say that.

If you're family, or my parents, please stop reading now.  Okay, I warned you;)

I'm sure y'all are wondering where I'm going with this post and what in the world a football game has to do with our journey to a family of 3.  Well, it has everything to do with it!

The last time LSU played at Florida, two years ago, Mr. was supposed to go to the game.  However, when my cycle started and we got our schedule from our RE, he had to sell his tickets to the Swamp.  As timing would have it, Mr. needed to stay home to make Jackson with me!

And as I held my sleeping 16-month-old baby at the end of the game all the shots, the bloating, the hormones and the stress all seemed to fade away.

Nothing good is ever easy, and nothing easy is ever good... getting here wasn't easy, but there's no place I'd rather be!

The Wilson's and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

>> Monday, October 11, 2010

Last Wednesday started out like any other day at the Wilson household. 6:45AM the alarm went off and Mr. went to get waking Jackson out of his crib. Jackson snuggled in bed with me and nursed. Everything was completely normal and I drifted away for a few more minutes of sleep.

My snooze alarm went off, so we rolled over and Jackson nursed on the other side. Just as I was about to take my milk drunk baby back to his bed, Jackson puked. Mr. and I kind of freaked, as his belly was full. Jackson cried a little, but we thought it more from being scared and wet then being sick.

Jackson rarely ever spit up or pukes, so we really weren't sure what had just happened. Just to be safe, we decided to let Jackson stay with us while we got ready for work. After my shower I was convinced that Jackson must have gotten too full and just spit up. He was running around and living up to his Action Jackson nickname.

However, our morning went from being out of sorts to no good at all, and fast! I have a little antique milking stool in our bathroom that I use for Jackson's bath. Mr. thought it would be funny to sit Jackson on the stool. We were both in the bathroom and Jackson was having fun...but, my Momma instinct told me this was a bad idea. I continued to blow dry my hair, as that little voice inside my head told me to get Jackson down. No sooner then I told Mr. to get him, Jackson fell. It wasn't a big fall, but we knew better.

I scooped Jackson up and calmed his tears with lots of sugars, kisses, and thought everything was okay. It was at that moment that he puked.all.over.me. Yep, I got puked on twice in a matter of 30 minutes. I instantly went into panic, wondering if Jackson had a virus or a concussion from falling off of the stool.

After a couple of phone calls to my pediatrician's office and my mom, we still weren't sure what was going on. Jackson's pupils were dilating normally, he was responsive to light. And he didn't stubble anymore than normal. My doctor said to watch him for the next couple of hours and to bring him in if he puked anymore.

I went to work, with my iPhone glued to my hip, and left Jackson with our rock star nanny. Yet another reason why she's such a rock star. All was good, he just had nasty diapers all day. We were all pretty convinced that Jackson just had a little virus. I got the call late in the afternoon that Jackson puked again, so I headed home to take care of my sick baby.

When I got home Jackson was acting totally normal. I tried to keep him quiet, but it was almost impossible.  Our night was routine and we all went to bed, assuming that Jackson's little bug had run it's course...that was until about midnight when we both woke up puking.

Poor Mr. didn't know which way to go - to help me, to get Jackson, or get the hell away from both of us! Luckily, he made it to the sink with Jackson and he was only sick once more. Mr. slept on the couch with Jackson just to be sure he was okay. And I basically slept in the bathroom. At that point I was 100% sure that Jackson had a bug and not a concussion.

Needless to say, Wednesday was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day! Jackson has developed a little cough and runny nose, but I think he'll be okay. I'm feeling much better, but still very tired. As for Mr., he seems to have escaped the bug for now...

16 months

>> Saturday, October 9, 2010

I know that I say this every month, but seriously, how is it that yet another month has past in a blink of an eye?!?

Jackson is 16 months old now, and more toddler than baby then ever before. He babbles all of the time. He loves to run wild and hates to sit still, unless he's sitting with our nanny. Jackson prefers eating food to drinking milk, and he loves water out of his sippy cup. He has weaned himself from nursing, except for morning and before bed. I'm really happy that we still have those times.

Jackson loves to open and shut doors, flip the light switch on and off, and unsnap my nursing tanks. He's a smart boy, always examining how things work. Jackson always watches us and then mimic our actions. He'll grab our toothbrushes and brush his teeth, or take his nose spray and try and do it himself.

We think that Jackson may be ambidextrous. We have a few lefties in the family, so I guess it's possible. Jackson can throw a ball with both hands, and picks up his fork with both hands. However, he throws a ball better with his left and eats better with his right.

I can't help but laugh at the fact that most of Jackson's clothes from when he was under a year still fit him. He's been in size 12-18 months for a while now:) Even though he's still a chunky monkey, he is losing his baby fat as he grows taller.

Each month that passes is better than the next. I can't wait to see what this next month holds for us. We're so excited for Halloween and planning for Christmas. I'm terrified to think about Action Jackson and a Christmas tree, but it will all be worth it:)

Our big news...

>> Wednesday, October 6, 2010

Our house is officially on the market! Gosh, I totally did not think this would be such an emotional decision. We seriously love our house. It's our home. Mr. and I bought it the morning after he proposed. This house is truly where we became a family of 3. We spent our first night as husband & wife here. I became Momma in this house. Jackson took his first steps, had his first Christmas, his first bath...okay, I could go on forever looking back - but we have to move forward. We must look towards the future and know that our next home will be so much more...

Here's to hoping another couple falls in love with our house soon. I'm not sure how long I'll be able to keep everything "show" ready with a toddler!
