Baby 2.0: 25 weeks

>> Friday, September 21, 2012

Pregnancy/blogger fail moment as I realize 5 weeks have gone by without an update regarding 2.0. I assure you, it's not because I haven't been thinking about Mattie 24/7, we have just been quite busy preparing for her arrival.

Coming up on the end of the second trimester, I am still feeling great...amazing really.

Size of Baby: cauliflower

Total Weight Gain: total since getting pregnant: +10.0

Continuing Symptoms: felt pretty good this month, minus some swelling here and there and yet another cold.

Maternity Clothes: leggings, shirts and some dresses...some of my dresses still fit. I'm on a mission to find some jeans this weekend.  The fall air is here and I'm beyond sick of my leggings and/or dress uniform.

Sleep: sleep is good!

What I'm Eating: pretty normal diet, just watching the sodium as much as possible.

Cravings: yogurt with fruit and granola.

Movement: she's a busy girl in there, practing her toe-touches and back-flips at bed time and early in the morning.

Labor Signs: no ma'am!

Special Pregnancy Moments: Working in the nursery and starting to organize Mattie's closet.  The past couple of weeks have been full of project like painting her room, setting up the crib and transforming Jackson's old changing table!

Meeting Ellie Jayne

>> Thursday, September 20, 2012

When the storm trackers forecasted Hurricane Isaac to make landfall in Louisiana my mom decided to head to St. Louis immediately.  She was not about to miss the birth of her third grandchild and Jim Cantore's arrival in New Orleans was just her sign to get out of town.  Mother nature vs. mother's intuition I guess you'd call it because sure enough Ellie was born the afternoon the storm hit.

My mom only booked a one way ticket to St. Louis since we really didn't know when Ellie would be born.  The timing of everything worked out perfectly though and I was able to hitch a ride with my step-dad to go and pick her up!

So Thursday after work, me, Jackson and Pop began our long drive up to St. Louis.  We planned on breaking up the drive, but after a terrible storm {literally the worst storm ever} came down I-55, we were awake enough to drive straight through the night!

At about 3:45AM I met my sweet, 9-day-old niece, Ellie Jayne.  She was sleeping oh so peacefully, as she does through the night already, and I instantly fell in love! Jackson woke up when we pulled him out of his car seat and he was equally excited about meeting the new baby.

I was hoping that Jackson would let me get a few more hours of sleep then he did, but as the sky opened on Friday morning, so did my boy and he was ready to hold Ellie.  And for the next two days that is all either one of us wanted to do.
Jackson told us all how much he just loved Ellie and counted all of her fingers and toes.  He loved to kiss her face and tell us how soft and sweet she was.  Jackson even went as far as trying to nurse her himself, 'cause he's got nipples too you know.  All he needed was a blanket and was determined.
"I got this momma.  I just need that blanket {hooter hider}.  I got this.  I got nipples too, yah, I do.  I can feed Ellie too.  She can come home with us and I'll feed her."

Oh.my.word.  Let's just say that I literally had to walk away and peed myself a little when this conversation started.  We are going to have our hands full when Miss Mattie Jayne arrives, that is for sure!
And, Amelia.  Let me just say, she is one proud big sister.  She squealed with excitement when she woke up to both Jacksie and Kiki at her house Friday morning.  Amelia immediately took my hand and led me to "Baby Ellie's" cradle to show off her sister.  It was a precious moment, one that I'll never forget.  There is a special bond between sisters that can't be put into words.  But at that moment, I just knew that Ellie is as special to Amelia as Megan is to me.  And that my friends brings sweet tears to my eyes:)

Leaving was so hard, and I believe Jackson took it harder than my mom.  Thank goodness we'll be seeing these two princesses in one short week!!!

Turning Thirty

>> Tuesday, September 18, 2012

I have to say turning the big 3-0 and entering this next decade of my life has been far better then I expected.

The beginning of my 20's were spent being let down by loser boyfriends and completed over-rated hype.  And then I moved to Louisiana, met my Mr. and experienced three hurricanes during the days and hours leading up to my birthday.  Seriously, three out of the eight birthdays I've celebrated since living in the south have been shared with Hurricanes Katrina, Gustav and Isaac.

Thankfully, we haven't suffered any harm during these hurricanes.  Just a little panic, manic trips to the grocery store and some time off of work to watch the weather channel incessantly...with an oh, by the way, happy birthday!

This year was oh so different.  This year was more than special and definitely anything but overlooked or overshadowed.

On the morning of my 30th birthday, we were all still overjoyed with the birth of my niece, Ellie.  My office stayed closed until noon, so Mr. and Jackson let me sleep in and listen to the rain.  Birthday wishes were shouted from my office, my friends and family.  And my boys stole my heart when I returned home from a half day at the office.

Jackson greeted me in the garage and hurried me into the house as fast as he could, all while saying Happy Birthday, Mommy over and over again.  If that wasn't enough to completely melt my heart, when I got inside Mr. had candles lit on the most beautiful cake and my boys sang to me!  Sweetest moment ever...followed by Mr.'s recreation of my grandma's mastacholi pasta dinner, a walk around the pond and amazing presents.
Besides feeling overwhelmed with joy and love on my actual birthday, I just know that this next decade is going to be the best yet. So much to be thankful for, so much to look forward to and so much life to live!

30-A Beach Getaway!

>> Wednesday, September 5, 2012

A few weeks ago, the boys and I packed up the new Acadia and headed to the beach for 9 amazing days!  Our Christmas present from Mr.'s mom was a family trip to the beach for all of us.  She found a great house right off of 30-A, one of my most favorite places, that was on the beach and large enough to house all 11 of us!

Randolph Family Beach Trip 2012
We had a great time hanging out on the beach and watching the three cousins bury themselves and their toys in the sand. It's amazing how much they have all grown since our little trip last year!

We cooked some nights and ventured out to Red Bar, Seaside and Baytowne Wharf other nights.  Nana and Papaw were even brave enough to babysit the boys one night so the siblings could enjoy a little night out on the town.  From Alys Beach to Watercolor, a night of fun was surely had by all!

Sister-in-laws at Caliza Restaurant in Alys Beach - AMAZING!
Just before sunset, me and my handsome hubby:)
Finishing date night with dessert, pool and fireside, at The Gathering Spot in Watercolor
Long walks down the beach were taken every day, as Jackson was on a mission to find pretty seashells both for himself and his sister.  Huge sandcastles were built - and knocked down because little boys find that to be way more fun! And a few seagulls may have been somewhat tortured at they were chased down the beach by Action Jackson.

I sat with my toes in the sand and buried myself in two great books.  I read Emily Giffin's newest book, Where We Belong and Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.  Two very different books, but equally as good!
The best part of the vacation was being with my boys with little distraction from the outside world.  We unplugged the best that we could and really soaked up our time together as a family.  It was most likely our last vacation as a family of three and my last week of my 20's!

"If you're lucky enough to be at the beach, you're lucky enough!"
