Splish, Splash

>> Tuesday, June 8, 2010

What fun is taking a bath, if you can't splish and splash a little bit!

I am a big kid at heart. Daddy was working late, so we played and splashed all over my bathroom. It was a wet mess! Jackson is such a water baby, I love it. Last night he finally put his head in the water and tried to blow bubbles. I've been working with him in the pool, but this is the first time he really got it!

Mornings with Jack

>> Saturday, June 5, 2010

Jackson got up a little earlier than normal today, so we decided to be productive this morning. On a side note - we went to visit my grandma this morning and I told her we were being productive. We are not morning people. Well, she thought I said we were being reproductive this morning. I felt bad bursting a dying woman's bubble, but that's not in the plan just yet. We all shared a good laugh about it though!

While we were waiting for Mr. to get ready so we could hit the road, Momma and Jackson had fun with the video camera.

My sister taught Jackson "sweet baby" and it is hysterical. He normally only does this when we're on Skype, but I think he was confused by seeing himself on camera.

Jackson got this awesome new toy for his birthday. It is so funny listening to Jackson say, "whoa, whoa" while he plays with his Penguin:)

Texas Size Fun

>> Wednesday, May 26, 2010

I have so much to blog about. I have so much catching up to do! Last weekend the Mr., Jackson and I headed to Dallas to see the Brummett Bunch. As always, we had an eventful trip and a wonderful visit.

Momma Brummett and I have been best friends since the third grade - which is like forever and a day ago. Living six hours away from each other isn't easy, but it makes our time together special. For the first time since my wedding night, we got to party like it was 1999 like some mommies without kids for a night:) Our hubbies took us to dinner and the Jimmy Buffet concert. We had a blast!

Breaking Points

What doesn't brake you only makes you stronger, right?!? I'm chanting this in my head, over and over again. What doesn't break me, will make me us stronger.

The night that I met my Mr., I knew that I was going to marry him. He literally swept me off my feet. We dated for almost three years before we got married. We had our battles over money and LSU, but overall we had a solid relationship - and a solid foundation to build on.

We fell in love, we got married, next up on the list was to have a baby. Little did we know the strain this would put on our marriage. However, we didn't let infertility break us. It definitely made us stronger. We came together, maybe even more so than before.

As straining and fragile as infertility made us, there was no preparation for what parenthood would be like. Especially after the honeymoon phase of falling in love with your newborn is over. The books don't tell you when the real sleep deprivation kicks in and your hormones are ragging, just how tough maintaining your marriage is.

The things you say in the middle of the night to each other between the wails of a screaming newborn are some of the meanest and most hurtful things. But, we made it through those nights - and have learned to function on a lot less sleep and hold our tongue. Those nights didn't break us, and they certainly made me stronger. We had a weekly date with a marriage counselor for a while just to be sure!

I'm in a constant battle to not let anything break us. And, the breaking points are constantly knocking on the door. Between Mr. transitioning into his new job, fights over to do lists, and a dying grandmother - the knocks are trying to beat down my door. I know that we will overcome this phase and be stronger on the other side. I know we will.

What doesn't brake us can only make us stronger! Please say it with me:)

Birthday Invitations & $50 Pear Tree Giveway

>> Tuesday, May 18, 2010

I'm kind of a sucker for good design, nice paper and a pretty pattern. I work at an advertising design firm, which means that I'm surrounded by design everyday. From my perfect wedding invitation to Jackson's birth announcement, I've wanted nothing but the best.

I've been brainstorming the perfect design for Jackson's birthday invitation for months now. I knew that I wanted something simple. Something that captured his sweetness and personality. Something that in my mind, was Jackson.

So, on a pretty night about a month ago, the stars aligned. The sun and lighting was perfect. Jackson was in an awesome mood. And I finally saw the invite in my mind. We were actually outside blowing bubbles. Jackson was a sticky mess. I stripped him down to his diaper and we continued to play. Then it hit me, the perfect idea for his invite. I ran inside and grabbed his birthday hat and started shooting away.

About a hundred pictures later and many hours of searching for a card design, I came up with this. And for me, it is the perfect invitation for my baby's first birthday.

I'm still not sure how it's possible that my baby is turning one in a few short weeks. Seriously, where did the time go?!?

Over the past year I've learned that there's nothing more breathtaking then breathing in that sweet baby smell. The dishes will wait for me while I stare at my sleeping baby and hold him tight long after I've nursed him to sleep. Some mornings, being to work on time is over-rated. Running back inside for one more kiss and wave bye-bye makes my day. I've learned to slow down and play, laugh, and cuddle - because before I know it, I'll be planning out Jackson's graduation announcement!

In honor of Jackson's first birthday, I'm hosting another giveaway. All you have to do is share with me the best piece of advice you've learned over the past year. Add your comment to this post for a chance to win $50 in stationery from Pear Tree Greetings! One lucky winner will be selected at random! Giveaway will end May 24th, so leave your advice now!

If you haven't checked out Pear Tree Greetings yet, it's a fun, fresh and affordable personalized stationery company that offers birth announcements, kid birthday invitations, note cards and more!

Makes me :)

>> Thursday, May 13, 2010

It's another day closer to the weekend, and I couldn't be more thankful for that! Yesterday just was NOT my day. Between Jackson's first birthday invites getting lost in the mail, finding out my car needs a few hundred dollars worth of work done, and no job offers for the Mr. yet, I was not a happy Momma.

I almost ran out of gas on my way home from work, but I was willing to take the chance. I just couldn't wait to get home! My day changed as soon as I walked through the door. I got the biggest smile from my lil man and everything seemed better. I can't help it, this boy just make me smile:)

11 months

11 months - May 9th, Mother's Day - I'm a little late in posting!

I can't believe that in less than one month, my baby boy will be turning 1! I still tell people we just had a baby - well it feels like we just had a baby! I think the sleep deprivation and mommy brain put me in a time warp. Seriously, it feels like just yesterday I was blogging about preterm labor and contractions.

As much as I hate that Jackson is getting so big, I absolutely love this age. He has such a personality and is an absolute character. We're going to have our hands full, without a doubt!

Jackson is starting to walk more and more everyday. When he gains confidence and realizes he doesn't need something to hold on to, he'll be running. I'm still patiently waiting for "Momma" to come out of his sweet little mouth. His voice has to be the sweetest sound I have ever heard - of course, after his heartbeat and first cry:) He babbles a lot, I'm won't be surprised when those babbles turn into sentences. I think he's like his Momma, and has a lot to say!

Speaking of his Momma, I think he got his sleeping skill (or lack there of) from me too. He either has a great night or a bad one. Poor kid, I know just how he feels. Sleepy or well rested, he is a Momma's boy... and I can't say that I don't love it. He gives the biggest hugs and slobbery wet kisses. He loves to lay his head on my shoulder while he sucks his thumb and grabs his ear. There is nothing better then seeing his face light up when get home from work.

I'm still nursing and pumping (and thankful that I've been able to do this for almost a year). It's hard for me to believe that my breast milk has made such a fat jolly little boy.

11 month stats - 25 lbs. and 29". He has three top teeth and a fourth starting to blister. As of right now, he only has two bottom teeth!

46 Days

>> Monday, May 10, 2010

46 Days - that is how long my first postpartum cycle was. As shocking as it was that I had a postpartum period, I have now started my second period. Two completely unmediated cycles, all on my own! Pretty impressive for a Momma that is supposed to have POF.

I am not on the pill, or temping, or charting... or ready to give Jackson baby brother Benjamin or baby sister Matilda (Tilly) Jayne. With that said, I am optimistically hoping that when the time is right for No. 2 - God will help us decide and I won't have to inject myself with hormones daily!

Mother's Day Weekend

I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend and an even better Mother's Day. I waited my whole life to hold my baby in my arms and celebrate Mother's Day, as a Momma. My thoughts and prayers are with those of you that are still waiting for this day. When the time comes, it will mean more then you ever imagined! Mr. got lots of points for making my first day weekend very special.

My Mother's Day weekend started with a surprise from my boys Friday. While we were getting ready to go to Downtown Alive, Jackson brought me a little box from my favorite jewelry store! Mr. had no business buying me anything with the job situation, but he did it anyway. I got a beautiful pair of earrings and two of the sweetest cards I have ever received!

The rest of the weekend was pretty much spent in our backyard. All four sets of Jackson's grandparents went in together and bought a swingset for his first birthday. Saturday morning Mr. and my step-dad and step-brother began the assembly... which took all of 20-hours to complete!

Saturday was also Prom for my oldest step-brother, so we got a few cute pictures of Jackson with his Uncle. The guys were a little slow moving on Sunday morning, so Mr. made us pancakes for breakfast! When the swingset was finally done, all of the kids in our neighborhood came to test it out. Jackson was belly laughing in his swing, so sweet. Not a bad way to spend his 11 month birthday:) He was terrified of the slide the first time down, but I'm sure he'll be climbing up it before the weeks over!
