Birthday Invitations & $50 Pear Tree Giveway

>> Tuesday, May 18, 2010

I'm kind of a sucker for good design, nice paper and a pretty pattern. I work at an advertising design firm, which means that I'm surrounded by design everyday. From my perfect wedding invitation to Jackson's birth announcement, I've wanted nothing but the best.

I've been brainstorming the perfect design for Jackson's birthday invitation for months now. I knew that I wanted something simple. Something that captured his sweetness and personality. Something that in my mind, was Jackson.

So, on a pretty night about a month ago, the stars aligned. The sun and lighting was perfect. Jackson was in an awesome mood. And I finally saw the invite in my mind. We were actually outside blowing bubbles. Jackson was a sticky mess. I stripped him down to his diaper and we continued to play. Then it hit me, the perfect idea for his invite. I ran inside and grabbed his birthday hat and started shooting away.

About a hundred pictures later and many hours of searching for a card design, I came up with this. And for me, it is the perfect invitation for my baby's first birthday.

I'm still not sure how it's possible that my baby is turning one in a few short weeks. Seriously, where did the time go?!?

Over the past year I've learned that there's nothing more breathtaking then breathing in that sweet baby smell. The dishes will wait for me while I stare at my sleeping baby and hold him tight long after I've nursed him to sleep. Some mornings, being to work on time is over-rated. Running back inside for one more kiss and wave bye-bye makes my day. I've learned to slow down and play, laugh, and cuddle - because before I know it, I'll be planning out Jackson's graduation announcement!

In honor of Jackson's first birthday, I'm hosting another giveaway. All you have to do is share with me the best piece of advice you've learned over the past year. Add your comment to this post for a chance to win $50 in stationery from Pear Tree Greetings! One lucky winner will be selected at random! Giveaway will end May 24th, so leave your advice now!

If you haven't checked out Pear Tree Greetings yet, it's a fun, fresh and affordable personalized stationery company that offers birth announcements, kid birthday invitations, note cards and more!

I love this quote and it's important to share!

Cleaning can wait til tomorrow.
Babies grow up we've learned to our sorrow.
So quiet down cobwebs, dust go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep!

Patience is a virtue.

Like you, I had a baby last year. April of 09 my sweet ELizabeth Ann joined our family four weeks early. I have learned that even though we were eager to see the first smile, anxious for the first hint of crawling, and desperately tried to get her to walk before she turned one, she would do it in her own time and I needed to have patience. Again, like you, I had to learn to stop and appreciate all of the small things while they lasted. I was in too much of a hurry to get her to get to the next stange. Now I just want her to slow down. This next year I vow to take things much slower.

I love, love, love that invite! Jackson's hat is adorable! The best piece of advice I've learned is actually from my baby Jax. He has taught me to SLOW DOWN. It takes us forever to get ready, finally get out the door, and it takes forever for us to go anywhere...and that is perfectly okay. I've slowed down and stopped rushing since Jax is here and I'm loving it :)

I got engaged this year and learned a lot about family dynamics. Of course, everyone is happy for me and my fiance, but at the same time there are lots of details involved and you can't satisfy everyone. Figuring out how your family operates and how to break news to them has been something I've learned firsthand this year.

Cute pics!!!! and cute invite!

I think my best advice latley has came from you, to not let the house work get to me and every other thing and just enjoy this little baby as much as I possible can, I know this is going to be somethign easier said than done but I will work on it!

Just realized I am going to need announcments! How exciting!

Best advice I've received since having my son: relax. LOL - so simple, but so true! I'm a stresser by nature and get myself in a panic pretty quickly over the little things. I had to learn to let go of that anxiety and let things happen!

I have learned so much this past year but the biggest thing would have to be is I am not a doctor or God for that matter.

I can't expect to be able to keep all sicknesses away. I have to realize that other kids have koodies and Potato will catch them. I have also learned that now matter how much I worry it will eventually take it's course and leave! I also realized that in the matter of your babies health it's ok to get others opinion.

I love Pear Tree! And I love the invite!

The best piece of advice I have received over the past year was from my Dad. He told me "Honey, enjoy what you have, be excited for this baby. Your excitement cannot and will not make anymore bad things happen."

After our loss, it was just what I needed to hear to get excited about Kate!

Just found your blog. Love it!

Best advice I've been given is to soak up EVERY single moment with your little one. If he's crying, pick him up. Snuggle everyday. Kiss and hug him with all you've got. Don't worry about making everyhting perfect. Just love without fail pray without ceasing.

Those pictures are so adorable, I can see how you'd have a difficult time picking just one. :) The invite turned out PERFECT!

One piece of advice huh? In the beginning this one was key for me - sleep when she sleeps! It really paid off in the long run when I listened to that. It was hard to do it at first as I was constantly wanting to get things done while she slept, but in the end I was so much happier when I took extra naps!

What adorable invitations, I need to file this idea away for when Miss Jillian turns one. They are adorable. For the giveaway, since Jillian is still not sleeping through the night, the best advice I have received is sleep when the baby sleep. It's not always easy advice to follow because the housework and laundry seem to get in the way, but I have taken many naps with my baby girl which have made me a much easier person to be around!! :)

What's the best piece of advice I received? Wellll, it was a little tough for me since I had two babies and some of the advice didn't really work for us. For example, the whole "sleeping when they sleep" thing...didn't really happen around here! lol The best advice I received was from my Mom and that was to listen to my gut. If I truly felt like something needed to be done or wasn't right, then my feelings should supercede what ever the Dr or book was saying. God gave us Mommies that natural instinct for a reason and 99% of the time, we are right!!!

omg, that just made me cry. Its going to be my baby in 5 months :( time flies

I think the best peace of advice, was you can't spoil a baby. Cuddle a lot because before you know it, they get too big to want to cuddle that much anymore!:(

caycee May 24, 2010 at 2:44 PM

Best advice is they are only little once, so enjoy every moment! This could not be more true!
