A bittersweet goodbye

>> Monday, June 14, 2010

My Grandmother passed away, peacefully, in her sleep on Saturday morning. I find it hard to even describe her in words, as none of them seem to do her justice. She was such a courageous, loyal, giving, and unconditional woman. I aspire to me more like her everyday.

As much as I know that my Grandma was in pain, it still breaks my heart that she is no longer with us physically. I will miss our evening chats in her bed, her bucket of beads for Jackson and her smile. I have thought long and hard, and I can't come up with one thing I've asked her to pray for that hasn't come true. I know that she truly is an angel watching over us now.

Grandma would have celebrated her 90th birthday in September. She was diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer four years ago. So everyday we had with her was a blessing. Grandma was able to see her only grandchildren (my sister and I) get married. She was able to enjoy the first year of her great-grandchild's life. And she knew, before any of us, that my sister was pregnant with her second great-grandchild.

We cry tears of joy remembering all that she brought into our lives. We cry tears of mourning for losing our angel here on Earth. We cry tears of laughter thinking of her "Grandma-isms" like Wal-Marks. And we cry tears of regret that we won't be able to kiss her goodbye one last time.

I'll hold her spirit close to my heart and know that a day won't go by without thinking of her.

I love you always and forever, Grandma!

This makes me cry! I'm glad that we were able to visit with her just a couple weeks ago and I too will always have fond memories of her. Now there is another angel up in heaven and I'm sure her and Grandpa are holding hands as they watch over you guys! Love you!

Cried as I read this....praying for you. You might remembering reading that I lost my own dear grandmother back in February. There are still hard days, but isn't it wonderful to know that you were loved, and to know that SHE knew she was loved?! Thank God for our angels!

I'm so sorry to hear this. We lost our grandfather in March. It's never easy to say goodbye, even if they've lived a good, long, life.
